Vignette for Bulgaria - Everything You Need to Know
If you are planning to travel with a car in Bulgaria outside of cities and towns, you must purchase a vignette, which is a road tax for using the national public road network for light vehicles and trailers up to 3.5 tons in weight. Motorcycles, farm vehicles, and ATVs are exempt. Vehicles over 3.5 tons do not need a vignette, but are required to pay a toll tax, the price of which is calculated based on the distance traveled. Without a valid vignette, you risk a fine, so it is important to be informed in advance.
What type of vignette to choose?
There are six types of vignettes: daily, weekend, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual. The electronic system makes the purchase easier, as vignettes can be bought in person and online.
How to buy a vignette?
You can purchase an electronic vignette here or through the National Toll Administraton's official website or via one of its official partners, including gas stations, bank branches, post offices, and mobile applications. All you need is the registration number of the vehicle and the country of registration. Make sure the vehicle data you enter is correct before you purchase, as the system does not allow for corrections after activation.
